The original Casellas planted some vines in the rural Italian landscape in 1820, and that was when everything began. Soon after, a cluster of grapes and a family love that would endure 188 years and counting both began to grow.
Let's go to 1957. When Filippo and Maria Casella made the decision to leave Italy and move to Australia, the company was still operating in Italy. They were stuck in their wine roots no matter how far they traveled. Filippo started offering grapes to nearby vineyards. Then, in 1969, he made the decision that it was time for a new Casella generation to employ their winemaking abilities. Casella sourced his fruit from additional growing regions around South Eastern Australia, following the example of other Australian winemakers, producing wines with exceptional freshness and character year after year. However, roughly 540 acres of the grapes used for [yellow tail] are cultivated in the vineyards of the Casella family in the Riverina region of Australia. The Casellas built a new and better winery in 1994, fusing modern technology with old world tradition.
